Propylene glycol Johnson Matthey

Conventionally, the commercial propylene glycol production route is propylene-based, through propylene oxide, and therefore sensitive to the price of petroleum and other associated products.  There is however an alternative manufacturing route for propylene glycol production via glycerline (a by-product of bio-diesel production from vegetable oil).

The DAVY™ propylene glycol process reacts glyercine over a heterogeneous catalyst with hydrogen at moderate conditions.  The advantage of this DAVY technology is high selectivity to the desired product.
